Diagnosed with Stage IV thyroid cancer at 13, Hazel was prepared to die until, at 14, a medical miracle shrunk the tumors in her lungs... for now.Two years post-miracle, sixteen-year-old Hazel is post-everything else, too; post-high school, post-friends and post-normalcy. And even though she could live for a long time (whatever that means), Hazel lives tethered to an oxygen tank, the tumors tenuously kept at bay with a constant chemical assault.Enter Augustus Waters. A match made at cancer kid support group, Augustus is gorgeous, in remission, and shockingly to her, interested in Hazel. Being with Augustus is both an unexpected destination and a long-needed journey, pushing Hazel to re-examine how sickness and health, life and death, will define her and the legacy that everyone leaves behind
This is my first John Green book. The Fault In Our Stars was --scratch that, IS such an amazing read. The characters, the development, the story, and oh, the slap-in-face reality.
I've never EVER fell in love with characters so quickly like I did with Hazel and Gus. Think of it this way ....John Green nurtured my bookish heart. He let it grow and fall in love with these characters and his writing. When I least expected it he smashed my poor heart. He grabbed it. Tore it in two and let it shrivel up and die there on the cold fictional floors. Then you want to know what he did? He grabbed a huge band aid and put it back together.
That's the best way I can describe my feelings for The Fault In Our Stars. Tear-jerking, heart-wrenching, and beautifully written. It's one of my favorite books of all time and I know I'm going to read this for years and years to come.
I just love everything about this novel. I hugged my copy when I finished. I hugged it so hard and I teared up at knowing it was over. I have not read any John Green book. Ever. But after this? I want to read all of his books! So watch out Barnes & Noble! Nerdfighter coming through!

My brother's obsessed with this book. Maybe I really should check it out. Have you read his other book Looking for Alaska?? According to my brother, it's like the greatest book ever.

HAHA, right!? SO. MANY. FEELINGS. And thank you!! <3 <3
DeleteWonderful review. I absolutely love the trailer as well, it's just so adorable! This book is definitely up there on my list of "Books I love by John Green." It comes right after Looking for Alaska, which you should definitely read next. I cried at the end. The ideas John presents are just so beautiful and Miles, Alaska, and the Colonel are all characters that I hold deep in my heart. I'm glad you loved this book, Monica :)
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I love this book so much too. I totally hugged my copy for a while after finishing this book. I actually never saw the book trailer before so thanks for posting it. Hope you love the rest of John Green's other books too!
